Measurement: Using the balance
Task with Student Directions

  1. Check the materials at this station:

    • Objects in a plastic bag

      • crayon
      • clothespin
      • washer
      • wooden block
      • 25 colored gram cubes

  2. Empty the objects in the plastic bag onto the table.

  3. Read the questions in the Student Response section to find out what you should do next.

  4. Answer all questions.

  5. When you are finished, put the materials back in the plastic bag.

Student Response

  1. Weigh each of the objects separately using the colored gram cubes.

  2. Count and write the number of cubes needed to balance each object in the chart.
