The Solid Precipitation protocol test assesses students' ability to take measurements of first snowfall, placement of snowboard, and measurements of subsequent snowfall

Recording first snowfall                                                
Select site least affected by drifting                                                
Insert measuring stick (meter stick) vertically                                                
Verify that stick has hit ground not ice layer                                                
Repeat and average the measurements                                                
Record; 0, Trace (0 - 0.5 mm), amount in mm                                                
Seating the snowboard                                                
Position snowboard atop existing snow                                                
Push snowboard down until flush with surface                                                
Place marker flag nearby                                                
Recording subsequent snowfall                                                
Measure total depth of snow on ground                                                
Select site away from snowboard that is least affected by drifting                                                
Insert measuring stick (meter stick) vertically                                                
Verify that stick has hit ground not ice layer                                                
Repeat and average the measurements                                                
Invert large cylinder (not rain guage) on snowboard; Push down until it touches surface                                                
Collect snow with cylinder                                                
Remove all snow from snowboard                                                
Reposition snowboard flush with surface                                                
Determine Liquid-Water Content                                                
Bring cylinder indoors; cover; allow to melt                                                
Pour water in rain guage; measure; record
