Look carefully at the photographs. P is a crane fly Q is an ant R is a wasp In what ways do the wasp and crane fly look alike? In what ways do the wasp and crane fly look different? The ant and the wasp are said to be more closely related to each other than to the fly. What can you see from the photographs that would support this?

Pupil responses

In (c) pupils failed to observe those features unique to the crane fly. The tendency was to describe features in common between teh art and the wasp without seeing that the same attributes were also shared by the crane fly.
