"215 - 215 = 3 so...the thermometer was off by 3 degrees."

Work shown and description indicates the student understands calibration, but the equation written is wrong.

The equation written should have been: "215 - 212 = 3 "

"The actual temperature of the hot gas = 372 F."
"I just took 375 - 3 = 372 "

The correct actual temperature is calculated and shown in the answer space.

"...as the humidity and temperature rise the air pressure decreases."




"I chose 100% for cloud cover because during the last day it has increased. For precipitation I chose 1.5 inches because the amount of rain was increasing during the last few days.

All three predictions conform to the data given in the table.

A key connection between air temperature, air pressure, and humidity is made indicating that the student recognizes that the weather factors are interacting.

The explanations offered for cloud cover and precipitation do not support the predictions, even though the predictions are within acceptable ranges..






This paper could have been a 4 if a better line of reasoning was followed to explain the predictions for cloud cover and precipitation. For example, in following with the stated connection between humidity, temperature, and air pressure, it could also have been said that as the relative humidity is high, cloud cover and precipitation are also high.

In addition, the response could do a better job of indicating a high level of understanding by providing clarification of terms and concepts and/or explaining how the stated connections work to create the weather.
