NCTM Activity - Air Temperature
Task with Student Directions

GLOBE Assessment
Grade 9-12

Math Activity for Protocol Test

For high school grades, include the following:

Use the relationship: degrees F = [9/5 (degrees C)] + 32 to translate these temperatures in degrees C to degrees F:
maximum temp = 34.5 degrees C
minimum temp = 18.1 degrees C
current temp = 22.3 degrees C

(NCTM Standards: Numbers & Operations 3.1, 3.2)

Use the relationships

degrees F = [9/5 (degrees C)] + 32 AND
degrees C = (degrees F – 32) x (5/9)
to calculate the temperature at which degrees C = degrees F

(NCTM Standards: Algebra 2.1, 2.3)

Air Temperature Protocol Test

The Air Temperature protocol test assesses students' ability to take accurate air temperature measurements.
